CEO Celebrates 45 Years at Tullos Training

At Tullos Training Ltd, we are proud to celebrate an extraordinary milestone – the 45-year career of our CEO, Iain Garrett, a figure whose influence has shaped not only our organisation, but the lives and careers of countless individuals.

From Apprentice to Industry Leader

Iain’s journey began in 1976 when he left school to start a mechanical apprenticeship with Mackinnons at Spring Garden in Aberdeen.  Alongside his early training, he attended Tullos Training – marking the beginning of a relationship that would later define his professional legacy.

In 1981, he returned to Tullos Training as a Mechanical Instructor.  This pivotal moment marked his transition from learning a trade to teaching it, helping to develop the next generation of skilled professionals.

Building a Career – and a Family

During these early years, Iain built both his career and his family life.  He married his wife, Rosalyn, in 1980, whose support has been a constant throughout his journey.  Together, they raised two daughters, Nicola and Claire – an achievement Iain considers among his proudest.

A Legacy of Growth and Transformation

Iain’s leadership qualities quickly became evident.  He progressed to Senior Instructor in 1986 and, just two years later, was promoted to Group Training Manager.  This role marked the beginning of a period of significant growth and transformation for the organisation.

As his role evolved into that of Chief Executive, Iain’s vision helped redefine what Tullos Training could achieve.  Under his leadership, the organisation expanded beyond its engineering roots to include:

  • Electrical Installation
  • Plumbing
  • Refrigeration

These strategic developments ensured the organisation remained relevant, forward-thinking and responsive to industry needs.

Investing in the Future

Iain’s impact extended beyond training programmes.  He also oversaw key infrastructure developments, including the expansion of the mezzanine floor – enhancing both capacity and capability.  This investment reflected a broader ambition to create an environment where learners and businesses alike could thrive.

Through these advancements, Tullos Training strengthened its reputation as a leader in vocational education, delivering high-quality training and supporting industry with skilled , work-ready professionals.

Leadership That Made a Difference

What truly sets Iain apart is not just what he achieved, but how he achieved it.  His leadership has always been defined by integrity, consistency an a genuine commitment to improving opportunities for others.

His influence can be seen in every corner of the organisation – from the facilities we operate in, to the programmes we deliver, to the success of the learner who pass through our doors.
